RIK0123A Matrix Fixture, Single DUT Clamp & Support Kit is a pair of parts including the DUT Clamp and Pedestal Support that is compatible with a specific Matrix Top Plate, that is now sold separately as "RIK0213C QuickLock DUT Clamp, Seiko/Epson", "RIK0239A QuickLock Pedestal Support, Pin Aligned", for use with "RIK0214A QuickLock Top Plate". This also allows for different z-heights to support different handlers and multiple multi-site configurations (Single, Dual, Quad) with a single, pin aligned "DIB sandwich".
Roos Instruments recommends using RIKs implementing the improved QuickLock design for any new developments going forward. To help manage a transition into the more robust and production friendly upgraded QuickLock topology, determine which DUTs are on the roadmap and how many Fixtures per DUT will be used.
All new Fixtures of an pre-existing design can use the new Quick Lock Top Plate with the old Pedestal support, but the new pedestal support requires the New QuickLock Top Plate.
Any New Fixture builds should use QuickLock Top Plate and any existing Fixture that they plan on adding new product onto should be upgraded to the QuickLock Top Plate and reuse the old Top Plates to build only old style fixtures as spares for existing designs. This involves unscrewing all Inserts (while leaving them attached) and pedestal supports.
The old assembly (RIK0123A) requires the Pedestal Support to be mounted directly to the Top Plate, then the DIB is inserted and DIB Clamp can be screwed to the Top Plate. This process can be error prone with limited operator training that requires 10x the number of screws, meaning the new process can save 90% of the time needed to perform a DUT changeover. The replacement parts use QuickLock technology used for rapid DIB Clamp exchanges. With both designs, Inserts/Launches remain installed on the Top Plate.
For production use, the old design required only QTY 1 of each DUT Clamp/Pedestal Support/Pedestal(s). To get the most benefit out of the new design, order 2 DUT Clamps, Pedestal Supports and Pedestal(s) to allow an operator to change the DIB offline, while the other "DIB sandwich" is installed, testing DUTs.
The recommended procedure outlined below allows new DIBs to take advantage of QuickLock technology while allowing the old DIBs to continue working on current hardware.
IMPORTANT: Replacement hardware IS NOT fully compatible. It will require physical modification of the old Top Plates (adding 4 screw holes) to allow new DIB Sandwich to work on old hardware. Also, new SMA Insert/Launch is recommended that uses a different DIB board pad layout.
MODIFICATIONS TO SUPPORT QUICKLOCK:
Old Top Plates can be modified to include 4 new screw hole locations to support "DIB Sandwich" assemblies based on QuickLock design.
NOTE: The NEW top plate (RIK0214A) will work with old DIB stacks, but the old RIK0123A Top Plate will NOT work with the new QuickLock parts unless they create the 4 screw holes.
Although we may be able to repair this RIK if need be, no new RIKs will be built and stock is now depleted.
What this means for you.
- 1) RI can no longer guarantee stock of these parts or their replacement parts. Repair of these items will be “return to factory”.
- 2) Roos Instruments will make every reasonable effort to repair a failed part but, if it is deemed by us to be un-repairable, we will not be able to repair or replace it.
If repair is not possible, your choices would be:
- a) Replace the failing component with another component from your spares inventory, if available, Or
b) Remove this functionality from the fixture.
